Camp Netimus Summer Camp for GirlsGreen Program
Netimus Turns "Green"
The Green Department
The "Green" Department at Camp Netimus emphasizes all things relating to healthy living, care for the environment and learning to live responsibly in and with our world.
Several programs and activities are offered within this Department.
Organic Gardening:
"Grow good stuff anywhere!" allows campers to participate in raising and preparing their own vegetables from the gardens at camp. All veggies are grown in small raised bed plots or containers and started in our greenhouse. Everything learned here can be practiced at home, even in urban settings.
Animal Care and the "Petting Zoo":
"TLC for our furry/feathered friends!" is for campers that want to learn more about animal care, including feeding, keeping small animals healthy and grooming. We have several pens full of animals and birds and we do several field trips to Petting Zoos and Llama Farms.
Cooking Healthy:
"Eat better/live longer" involves learning to prepare locally grown and/or organic foods, so they are tasty and nutritious. Campers will learn new recipes and cooking skills to take home to family and friends.
Cooking for Fifty:
"Make a Lotta People Happy!" is a hands-on activity in quantity cooking. Campers get a real appreciation for what it is like to actually plan, purchase and prepare and serve for 200 hungry campers and staff.
Good Stewardship:
"Do Your Part for the Planet!" class will involve service projects, field trips, and environment projects. Campers will help make nature trails, install and manage a deer exclusion area and deer feed lots, learn forest stewardship; take trips to landfills, wind farms as well as help build and manage solar water heating boxes and other energy saving projects around camp.
